The problem

Do you work with a laptop?
How many times has it happened to you that you were looking for a nice Coffee House where you can just sit and work?
One where you can also sit for hours without feeling the need to order everything on the menu because you felt uncomfortable?

One that has many sockets for charging the computer and that is quiet in it?

The solution

At work, at school and on social networks, for example Facebook groups, the question "Do you know a Café where it is acceptable to sit with a laptop?" was often asked.
So I decided that it Is time to create an application that gathers under it all the cafes where it is acceptable to sit and work with a laptop - and not only that, but actually provides an opportunity to filter exactly the users needs so they find the most suitable Coffee House for their use.

Social networks review

A quick search of the word "Laptop" on Facebook groups show Hundreds of posts with questions and recommendations regarding Coffee Houses that are suitable for laptop users.

After reviewing many posts I have found this are the common users needs:

  • A café that located in a specific area (near by the users apartment or by a preferred area).

  • A café that has availability places to sit.

  • A quiet café.

  • Late night café.

  • A café that has an electric connection near the tables.

  • A café where it is not necessary to order a lot of food from the menu in order to sit in it.

Questionnaire

I published a questionnaire that was answered by 38 women and men of all ages.
All of them stated that they would be happy to use an application that gathers all the information about cafe's that are suitable for laptop users.

After reviewing the posts, I mapped the needs that were repeated a large number of times, and based on that I built a questionnaire with the aim of understanding what are the most important criteria for users looking for a
café that is suitable for sitting with a laptop. I asked them to rank the most important criteria for them, and these are the results:

Would be happy if the café be known as a laptop friendly.

68%

It is important for them to have an electrical connection near the tables.

87%

It is important for them to have silence that allows concentration.

65%

It is important to them that the café will be open late at night.

41%

82%

A café that has availability places to sit.

91%

It is important to them that the café will be close by their living area or by an area they like

86%

Do not wand to be Obliged to spend amount of money on F&B for their stay.

39%

Would be happy if the café will be open on weekends.

Competitive Analysis

There is no dedicated app for finding laptop-friendly cafes, but there is one app I found that provides the option to filter by this category, the Easy app.

Capture.PNG

Easy

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • The application is well known among the Israeli audience - therefore it is very intuitive

  • Many filtering options according to different categories. such as opening hours, navigation, menu, etc.

  • There is a rating and review of the cafes.

  • It is possible to filter by distance from your current location or by entering a specific address.

  • There is no "quiet place" filter - and according to what I see from the results of my research, this is a very necessary filter for filtering relevant cafes.

  • From a check I made, there are cafes that are open late at night and are not indicated in the application, so the information is not synchronized accurately.

  • It is not possible to reserve a place in advance for any cafe that is on the list.

  • When you click on "reserve a place" and enter a date and time - if there is no availability at that time, the application does not show the other available options that day.

"The great advantage of my job is that I can work from wherever I want. The problem is that I don't know enough cafes that allow me ideal conditions for work"

Pain points

  • She doesn't have time to look for new cafes that suit her requirements: quiet, where meetings can be held, where there is available place to sit during the day.

  • It is important for her to find cafes that, beyond her work requirements, also meet her personal needs - that serve gluten-free dishes, because she is sensitive to this, and she knows very few such places.

"Finding a place to study is really challenging. There is noise at home, there is not always room in the library and most cafes are not suitable for prolonged sitting".

Pain points

  • Most cafes are not open late at night or on weekends- and these are times that are crucial for students.

  • There are many cafes where there is the feeling of ordering items from the menu from time to time to justify their sitting - something that evokes the financial aspect which is a significant consideration for students.
